The Mercedes-Benz B-class is pleasant to look at, although not everyone will take to its MPV shape. However, the B-class cabin will find universal appeal. It’s not only well-finished – as you’d expect a Mercedes cabin to be – but also offers loads of room, even if it’s best thought of as a four-seater. There’s a large boot, too, but much of its usable space is occupied by the space-saver spare tyre that sits on the boot floor.<br>The Mercedes B-class’ 122hp, 1.6-litre petrol engine offers fair performance but can sound harsh when extended. The 136hp, 2.1-litre diesel feels stronger but then again, the engine doesn’t feel as nice (or as quiet) as the newer Mercedes diesel units. Mercedes’ suspension enhancements have made the B-class feel quite pliant over poor roads but there is still that European car firmness to the set-up.
