What is a Vehicle Registration Certificate?

A valid registration certificate is provided for every vehicle registered with the Indian government. It is more or less like an identity card for the cars on Indian roads. The registration certificate indicates the territorial boundary of a vehicle along with essential indicators like the chassis number, engine number, type of fuel used and cubic capacity. It also shows the vehicle category.

How Do You Apply for an RC for Your Car?

• Go to the nearest RTO with your vehicle.
• The regional officer will inspect your car/vehicle.
• Fill out Form 20 to apply for the RC.
• The RTO officer will take the imprint of the vehicle’s chassis number.
• Submit all the necessary documents.
• Make the registration payment and collect the invoice.
• Wait till you receive the RC.

Today, everything is about convenience, and private dealers can apply for a registration certificate on your behalf. These dealers must have a valid trade certificate from the RTO. Login credentials are given to the dealers so they can process the application.

The registration certificate will be processed once you submit the necessary documents and information. The RTO will dispatch the original RC.

How to Get the RC Book Replaced?

The first thing you must do in case of a lost or damaged RC book is report it to the local police station. This is important because the officials must be aware that your RC book is either not with you or must be duplicated.

After doing so, you can apply for a duplicate RC from the regional office.

Pay the charges specified in Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989.

• Affidavit stating that RC is lost and has not been impounded
